BP Lodge 23-25 September 2011

‎Recently, 6 members from The Crew (Holly Stephens, Owen Rees, Cameron Scott, Rowan Sainsbury, Craig Millsom and Mr. Leitch - along with a now recruit Amy Stephens and that guy Simon from Mt. Faulkner - went up to BP Lodge for the weekend. Minus the fact that Leitchy forgot to pick up Owen (luckily he had to go back past his place, Holly's car not liking the idea of hills and speeds over 90km/h (due to problems later solved), and that we arrived at the car park close to 1am, the trip up and in went really well.
We wandered out and up along the partially underwater Horse Track in the morning to Crater Peak, then further onwards through the large mass of snow to Kitchen Hut at the bottom of Cradle Mountain. Then the climb began.
What is supposed to be a 2.5 hour return walk (for experienced hikers that), we managed to struggle up it over rocks and cliff faces, before arriving at the top of the first section, down across the snow-covered saddle, then up again to the summit, taking nearly just over 2 hours, but who's complaining.
We ate lunch, went 'topless on top' and pissed of the top, before beginning the journey down and back to BP Lodge. The drinks came out with various tastes along with spaghetti bolognaise for dinner and golden syrup dumpling for dessert. A game of Bartok began, with various and unexpected results, one being the chicken dance if you stuffed up and another involving kissing the person to your left on the cheek (Owen had to kiss Craig on the cheek 3 times).
We left the Lodge around 10am Sunday morning with one thing on some of our minds: Was Holly's car going to make it out of there? We made it down to the car park, discovered the car had very little oil. We topped it up with the oil we found in the back of the car. We managed to get back to Wilmot with no problems where our convoy spilt: Leitchy, Cam, Owen and Rowan headed towards Hobart, where they lost power outside Perth for a little while before beginning again, and Holly, Amy, Simon and Craig headed towards Burnie in 2 cars, because they were all certain Holly's car wouldn't even get near Hobart. Holly and Amy’s brother James checked the car over, while the four of us discussed whether we were catching the bus back to Hobart or staying at Amy's for the night then catching the bus back in the morning. However the problem was solved: 1 spark plug wasn't working and another partially sparking. So in the end Holly, Simon and Craig went back to Hobart in the now working properly car (spark plugs were changed) via Devonport for Chinese and a lot of music.
With that, our weekend was officially over. We might possibly go back for more next year with more people.
